violence, new Aquanaut Drinks Coffee, rolling ball
I have been getting some rather aggressive and violent emails demanding that ironlemon provide more infotainment (I think I just made that up, probably not though. It's stupid anyway). Here is my response: OK already. I'm working on it.
James, an Aquanaut Drinks Coffee fan, has emailed in demanding more rare tracks. You should be quite pleased to learn that not only will there be more rare tracks soon, there will also be lots of NEW tracks.
Larry plans to release 'The Concept Of Love' on Thursday, May 20. It's got around 17 tracks. There is also the unreleased 'Morals in Videogames', 26 more masterpieces, that will be out soon. Larry has a release schedule with detailed descriptions that will soon be up on the newly revised Aquanaut Drinks Coffee site. You will be overwhelmed with pleasure.
Aaron Kiley and Dan Cortez from Secret Life of Painters / Red Shifter have been emailing things like "I found it (the website) very informative and sexually arousing" and talking about what to put up here. So stay tuned. The Secret Life of Painters / Red Shifter website is coming. It's in motion. The ball is rolling. Look out for the rolling ball.

The Ballad Of is playing this Sunday, the 2nd of May, at the Emerald Lounge in Phoenix. It should be interesting. Sadly, Brian (the bass player) has re-quit the band. I wish I had a good juicy story about it but there isn't one. We are playing some quite different arrangements to fill in the missing space, so even if you've seen us recently you should be entertained. Tami will be there on violin. You want to go.

Reubens Accomplice played with Britt Daniel (from Spoon) last night at Stinkweeds. It was fun. Jeff and Chris played acoustic and I played keys. I like it when we screw with song arrangements and instrumentation; change is good. Britt was awesome - it was just him, an electric guitar, and a boom box with random shit on it. Very good. Highly recommended.
John Fogarty sent this in in response to my question: What is the difference between drinking and sleeping?
the difference between drinking and sleeping is that, when you're sleeping, you can't play the worst drums you'll ever play in your life at the emerald lounge on sunday, april 18, 2004.
I didn't think that John played bad, but I was at least as drunk as he was. So was the rest of the band. I do know that we assaulted the crowd with a wall of noise for at least 10 minutes at the end of the set, which is always good in my book. I think that Shane Kennedy recorded the April 18th The Ballad Of show. Anybody know anything about that?
I know, I know - I need to update the show list. I'll do that soon. Seriously, chill out, I'm on it.

last night, today
I spoke with the fellas from Secret Lives of Painters (ex Red Shifter) last night about putting a Red Shifter page up on ironlemon, and the reaction was generally lukewarm. John Hofmann doesn't really care as he is more intelligent than you or me and ignores the internet. For some reason he chooses to spend his time writing songs instead. Weirdo. Dan Cortez is into it, but Aaron is on the same boat as John. John hasn't even seen the Pine Wyatt site yet. You would think that I would use this to my advantage and put nude photos of him up, but those pictures are MINE and YOU CAN'T SEE THEM.
Today is shaping up to be stupid. I got up a 6:30, now it's 8:00 and all I've done is written this post. How does that happen? Anyway, the rest of the day is: The Ballad Of practice from 11:00 - 2:30, maybe Reubens Accomplice practice from 3:00 to 4:30 or so, then maybe going to see Shhh...the baby's sleeping at the New Times music festival, then The Ballad Of plays a show at the Emerald Lounge.
There is actually more than one show I would like to go see tonight, which only happens when I'm playing a show. Squarepusher, Tony Malaby, and the New Times music festival thing would all be fairly entertaining. Oh well.

news from the front
Reubens Accomplice is going out on the road (finally). After our show on the 14th of May we will be driving to New York to pick up John and his drums. Then we tour for 3 weeks or so. I may have to make an "Upcoming Shows" page instead of that column over on the left to fit them all on. Good Lord. I'll do that soon and put the dates up.
The Ballad Of is playing on Sunday at the Emerald Lounge in Phoenix. You should go, if your not doing anything else. Seriously, it might be fun. We also have some cool new recordings you should hear. I'll ask the rest of the band if I'm allowed to put some of them up.
Hey dudes - can I put some of those new recordings up here?
I just talked to John Hofmann from Pine Wyatt, The Secret Fox, Red Shifter, Secret Lives of Painters and Liger today. He's got lots of new stuff. I will be listening to it and giving you a full report this weekend.
"Who the hell are the Red Shifter and Liger," you ask? Two more bands that I used to be in that will have websites up here soon. "What about the Secret Fox and Secret Lives of Painters?" continues you. They are both different incarnations of the Red Shifter. Same band members, different missions. They deserve better documentation than this simple post, and so I shall stop speaking of them immediately.
Somebody please email me and remind me what the difference between drinking and sleeping is, I think I've been getting them confused lately.

ok then
I have been seriously slacking on the updates. The not-sleeping-enough schedule I've been on has rendered me unable to properly form enough coherent thoughts to justify a post. Sorry. Here's the latest:
The Ballad Of has a show on April 18th at the Emerald Lounge. You should go (unless you live in Alaska, that's too far of a drive, not worth it). We practiced last night and it sounded quite good. I have new equipment that allows me to create serious noise. Fun.
There is a good chance Larry is going to murder me because I don't have the new Aquanaut Drinks Coffee site done yet. I may be able to avoid death by finishing it this week. I'm going to try.
I'm writing a recount of what happened at the last Reubens Accomplice show very soon. Stay tuned.

last night
The Reubens Accomplice show last night went well. I had a good time and it seemed like at least a few other people did too. Pinback was good, as you might expect if you have heard that band before.
I need to revise my schedule from yesterday. Change the "pass out in a hotel at around 2:00 am at the earliest" part to "drive home to Tempe and pass out at 4:30 am". Also change the part about waking up at 6:30 - I got to sleep in until 7:30!!
Needless to say I am quite exhausted. I was just about to write a long paragraph about how I like Tucson and how much cooler it is than Tempe but I'm too tired and now I'm just going to write this: WHOEVER STOLE MY BOOK THAT I JUST BOUGHT BETTER GIVE IT BACK RIGHT NOW I WANT TO READ IT
It might in my car though, let me go check.(0) comments [+/-] show/hide the comments
